This Monday is brought to you by the man in black, the epitome of cool. I grew up listening to Johnny Cash, Elvis and Willie Nelson; even as a young kid, the edge of his music drew me in.
Enjoy.
…When I was just a baby, My Mama told me, “Son, always be a good boy, don’t ever play with guns”, but I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die, when I hear that whistle blowin’, I hang my head and cry…

Big John, now that is just plain badass. Cash was/is the coolest of the cool. Thanks for the Monday morn vid. GFY
Some years after Cash was indicted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, an interviewer from the Hall asked Cash what he thought about gangster rap, and all its glorification of killing and drugs and such. Cash replied (paraphrasing): I’ve been talking about guns, and murdering and drinking for over 30 years. If that’s what their life is and that’s what they see, they should just do what they do and don’t let anyone else tell them different. If they got a problem with that, tell ’em to fuck off.
Ain’t No Grave was playing on my itunes when I opened this post. American Recordings is one of my favorite albums. I used to get mocked for listening to Cash years ago… Fuck you. Cash has always been cool.
“Don’t Take Your Guns to Town”. He’s badass.
GFY!
Awesome, awesome, awesome. I still think Johnny Cash was the coolest ever, even after knowing that Shane likes him.
Grew up on country music in the middle of nowhere. My grandpa’s band used to play Cash tunes and I couldn’t figure out why all the men wents nuts when he did. About 16 I realized why.
I grew up w/my dad playing 8 tracks in his car w/Willie Nelson!!! Damn that s**t is OLD!!
I saw Willie Nelson chillin in some taco restaurant in Hawaii, I did a double take and he realized I was in shock, then I looked around and saw his pics framed the walls all around the place, he played there for DECADES on a small, corner in the wall stage.
He kept it real, even when he was BIG time!

When my daughter was 3 she could sing that whole song. I didn’t realize she was old enough to pick up the lyrics, then one day I heard her singing it in her car seat. I may sound like a bad parent, but a 3 year old little girl singing “I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die” while trying to make a deep voice, is pretty funny.
Two years ago a buddy of mine and myself were road tripping from Baltimore to the Bitteroot Valley and back. Cash was a sound track staple. One of the most intense moments of the entire trip was cutting across big sky country as sun down with Cash coming through. Satisfied Mind is a personal favorite.
Is it just me or does Johny Cash, with some of the quirks remind anyone else of Charlie Sheen?
