#Occupy Farmland

Hey John...Thank you. You have given so much with TTMJ and the CFFB site, it has had a profound impact on my life. Suffice it to say I went from a 180# off of traditional CF programming to 208# off of CFFB from August 2011 to the present. My CFFB total has evolved from below 1000 to 1335 for the latest one on the site (Post-#OS Chicago), in which every single lift was a PR (PC 240, SQ 365, BP 230, DL 500). Your site is an invaluable resource, and the shit works, period. Thank you for giving us a small glimmer if what it is like to be "Welbourn Strong". I will be seeing you soon as I am bringing a group to get their cert's at the Bloomington-Normal weekend...

Sustainability

“How much evil throughout history could have been avoided had people exercised their moral acuity with convictional courage and said to the powers that be, 'No, I will not. This is wrong, and I don't care if you fire me, shoot me, pass me over for promotion, or call my mother, I will not participate in this unsavory activity.' Wouldn't world history be rewritten if just a few people had actually acted like individual free agents rather than mindless lemmings?"...

Crock Pot Reflections: Big Bubba Update

I wanted to share photos and give some feedback on the Big Bubba's Ribs recipe. They came out better than expected. I substituted carrots for sweet potatoes...as I was out of sweet potatoes. It was a bit light on the salt for my taste, but that is an easy fix as I can add salt to the finished product. This one might need a few attempts to perfect, and as you can imagine I will jump on the sword until it is perfected. And remember...Serves 1...

GF Whey from Well Food Company

A few days ago, I was was candid with the supplements I take and which ones I recommend. In the post on Supplement Recommendations, I mentioned a whey protein from Evolve Foods and a discount code for the CFFB Nation. I got word from Evolve Foods the protein is in stock and ready to ship. All you need now is a discount code to save a few bucks. Enjoy...

Crock Pot Diaries: Big Bubba Beef Ribs

Here is another installment from the Crock Pot Diaries. This time we journey away from the other white meat to the only meat that really matters: red meat. I also selected one of my favorite cuts, ribs. They are tasty and with the meat conveniently attached to a bone, they are a home run. I have always thought ribs are to meat as stick is to corn dog. And since I don't eat corn dogs anymore, I have to substitute with ribs. Enjoy this latest thriller from the Crock Pot.

Supplement Recommendations

I have been meaning to write up a recommendation for supplements for a while, so thanks for submitting your question. There are many conflicting opinions on supplementing. I think first and foremost, that if your training and food intake is not taken seriously, you are wasting your time with supplements. With that said, there are hundreds and thousands of supplements on the market today. Just click on BodyBuilding.com for a glimpse of what is out there. Everything from MEGAXPLODE 9000 to crushed yak testicles claims to aid in performance...

Ski & CFFB

Hey John...Wondering if CFFB is appropriate for alpine skiing/racing? In the past I’ve used CrossFit for off/on season training and during that short duration, my strength never really progressed to a desired level; total shocker. I’m not the type to combine 20 different programs into my own secret squirrel special sauce, so I am looking for some guidance...

White Lies

Would shuttle runs be a good replacement for sprinting? The gym I belong to doesn't have a very good running area (it's a beat up alley with pot holes and gravel). I could probably make do on some work outs where I could bring the rest of the equipment outside, but that's probably a PITA most of the time. Inside, I can do 25' shuttle runs, so a 40-yard sprint would be about 5 turns. I realize I won't be able to go full speed, but it would still bust up my lungs pretty good. I ask because I want to start the CFFB program. I'm growing dissatisfied with the regular CF programming and want to get stronger. The only problem I see with doing the CFFB programming is the sprinting...

Crock Pot Diaries: Salsa Verde Pork

John...Thanks for the coffee grounds beef crock pot recipe. I saved my coffee grounds this morning in anticipation of making it tonight. Any help with a crock pot recipe for pork?...I have a favorite recipe for pork shoulder/butt inspired by Seaside Kitchen's, Cassidy Flynn. I have made this about 10 times in the last few months and believe I have something special. For best results, consume with generous helping of Red Bridge beer...

Flesh Builds Flesh

The key problem with soy is that it contains phytoestrogens, which "mimic the physiological effects of the endogenous hormone, estrogen". So by consuming soy products, you’re could be pumping hormones into your body like you are taking birth control pills. Now imagine you take your days old baby boy or girl and start pumping soy-based formula into him or her 8 times a day. The flush of phytoestrogens wreaks havoc on the surge of testosterone that happens in newborn baby boys. If your intent is to create a living Ken doll out of your boy, soy him up. I can only speculate on what the extra estrogen does to young baby girls...
