Talk To Me Johnnie European Tour ’10

When you leave the States and head across the pond many things strike you as different and traveling from California to Scandinavia might make for some interesting sights. So I decided to take some pictures of things I thought you might not see back at home. Our first stop was Norway where we decided to hit the grocery store and pick up a few things. Not sure if this is sign is telling [...]

Adventures in Scandinavia

Maybe you noticed...or maybe you didn't...but Talk To Me Johnnie has not updated for 2 weeks. No...I have not decided to "shit can" the TTMJ project, we have been traveling. We took CrossFit Football on the road to Norway and Sweden to see if what we are teaching has interest outside the land of American Football, light beer and sunshine. This all started when I received an email from two guys in Norway [...]

Testimonial

I am the head track coach at Bountiful High School in Utah.  I decided in November to implement the CFFB program in my conditioning and see the effect it had on my upcoming season, which had promise but needed some serious development.  It did not take long for the athletes in my program to believe in the system and wish for more every day.  I had kids in the weight room every day [...]

You think you will make the weight?

Hi John, First, thanks for the great programming.  I've been using it for the last six months, and really couldn't be happier. However, I'm training for the Marine Corp's Officer Candidate School.  Part of its requirements is a three-mile run in 18:00 for maximum points.  I recently ran a 5k with less than satisfactory results.  I wonder what you would recommend to improve my endurance for these long runs, besides things like intervals, [...]

Busted Nose

On 5rm back sq yesterday I got a pr with 435, nose started to bleed a little on 4th rep and busted couple of blood vessels in right eye, is this normal? Jimmy Jimmy – while it is not the norm, it happens. For me, broken blood vessels are more common, but a bloody nose hasn't happened in recent years. The first time I got a bloody nose and I broke blood [...]

2 Workouts…1 Day

Hello CrossFit Football, I am from Crossfit Aalborg in Denmark, I've got the city's hockey team into our center. I am sure that your program is brilliant for them. Are you intending to do the Daily WOD and Strength WOD on the same day? Mvh Mads Skovsgaard Thimm Crossfit Aalborg Mads – You got it right. We do the Strength work first, wait about 5-15 minutes and then jump into the metcon or [...]

Smaller Jumps

Talk to Me Johnnie, I’ve been following the CrossFit Football programming for several months and seeing steady progress. My question is about the speed of progression. For example, the typical amateur programming calls for a Press 3x5 (add 5 lbs to last workout) each Monday.  Should I realistically be able to add 5lbs to my press each week?  Or is the point to continually challenge myself and add 5lbs as soon as i can complete [...]

RIP

Slipknot bassist, Paul Gray, was found dead on Monday morning. I first saw Slipknot in 2000 in Philadelphia and have listened them for years while training. I had the pleasure of seeing them in multiple shows when they opened for Metallica on Metallica's European Tour in 2003 in support of St. Anger. Mastering a Skill

Hey John, A question about gaining relative strength (I’m 5’11” 26 years old, a soft 210lbs): For about 8 months now I’ve been cycling through the poweroly lifts about every 2 weeks. Doing a 5RM then 3RM then 1RM each 2 weeks (so I start over about every 6 weeks) I have been making very steady gains in absolute strength. I’m coupling gymnastic movements with different lifts and doing a few ‘max rep’ [...]
