Compression Skins

John – Have you used compression skins or compression shorts to aid in recovery or increase performance? Do you think they work and if they make a difference in your training or competition? James D. James - While my experience wearing tight spandex is extensive after a career in the NFL, I am not an expert on compression gear. But I have worn compression shorts during my career when I pulled my groin [...]

Busted Nose

On 5rm back sq yesterday I got a pr with 435, nose started to bleed a little on 4th rep and busted couple of blood vessels in right eye, is this normal? Jimmy Jimmy – while it is not the norm, it happens. For me, broken blood vessels are more common, but a bloody nose hasn't happened in recent years. The first time I got a bloody nose and I broke blood [...]

2 Workouts…1 Day

Hello CrossFit Football, I am from Crossfit Aalborg in Denmark, I've got the city's hockey team into our center. I am sure that your program is brilliant for them. Are you intending to do the Daily WOD and Strength WOD on the same day? Mvh Mads Skovsgaard Thimm Crossfit Aalborg Mads – You got it right. We do the Strength work first, wait about 5-15 minutes and then jump into the metcon or [...]

Smaller Jumps

Talk to Me Johnnie, I’ve been following the CrossFit Football programming for several months and seeing steady progress. My question is about the speed of progression. For example, the typical amateur programming calls for a Press 3x5 (add 5 lbs to last workout) each Monday.  Should I realistically be able to add 5lbs to my press each week?  Or is the point to continually challenge myself and add 5lbs as soon as i can complete [...]

Mastering a Skill

Hey John, A question about gaining relative strength (I’m 5’11” 26 years old, a soft 210lbs): For about 8 months now I’ve been cycling through the poweroly lifts about every 2 weeks. Doing a 5RM then 3RM then 1RM each 2 weeks (so I start over about every 6 weeks) I have been making very steady gains in absolute strength. I’m coupling gymnastic movements with different lifts and doing a few ‘max rep’ [...]

Elbow Pain

Talk To Me Johnnie, After taking Rips barbell cert I have been low bar back squatting and am managing to move more weight- excellent.  Then I discovered CrossFit Football and have added more weight to my back squat- awesome.  My problem is massive pain on the medial side of my right elbow.  I have sought treatment and been diagnosed “golfers elbow” or medial epicondylitis.  I have done some research on the Internet discovering [...]

Regeneration

Hey John, I've been following CFBB for about 9 months with amazing results, but I have been struggling with an injury to my elbow which I first noticed a few months after I was hit by a car riding my mountain bike. Its a dull, aching nerve pain lateral to the olecranon of my left elbow. It only happens when our workouts have movements such as snatch, dips, jerk, and to a lesser [...]

Gain LOADS of Weight

I'm from UK and follow the CFFB WODS and strength daily. I'm 180lbs 17 years old and trying to gain LOADS of weight, would you recommend GOMAD? Or just milk/whey/oats post workout? I'm eating paleo, fairly strict. Many thanks George George, Unless you are 4'11, being 180lbs is not conducive to being strong. J/k, but what you have done is completed step 1 by showing interest in growing and increasing strength through this email. [...]

Push/Pull

Hello, I'm a grad assistant strength coach at University of South Carolina, and I'm very interested in your programming.  I've been competing in CrossFit over the last year, and often design my own programs.  I'm curious about your programming for the Collegiate strength wod's, and was hoping that you could explain your method to me.  One part that confuses me particularly is from May 3, and May 4.  Each day athletes were asked [...]
